Director of Content Development

  • The Work

    The head of content leads AMC’s content discipline, owning team performance, editorial standards, and the operational systems that ensure written work is clear, accurate, strategically aligned, and delivered efficiently at scale.

    This role is responsible for the management and development of the writing team, including full-time and contract writers. You will ensure content is produced consistently, meets quality standards, and supports campaign strategy.

    Our content team is comprised of writers with varying skillsets giving us creative horsepower in blank page situations, production work, multiple formats and plenty of mediums including print pieces, websites, digital ads, emails, social content, video assets and more.  There are very few content areas we can't handle.

  • Core Reponsibilities

    This role owns content quality, operational efficiency, responsible AI integration within the content function, and talent that power the agency’s storytelling.

    Content Quality & Editorial Standards

    • Establish and uphold quality standards for all written work across AMC.
    • Translate strategic direction into structured briefs and execution guidance for writers.
    • Review drafts and revisions to ensure clarity, alignment, tone consistency, and performance readiness.
    • Serve as the final quality checkpoint for complex or high-visibility deliverables.
    • Maintain editorial standards for voice, structure, formatting, and asset consistency across accounts.
    • Reduce revision cycles by improving upfront clarity and draft structure.

     

    Team Leadership & Performance Management

    • Lead and supervise a team of writers and contract contributors.
    • Collaborate with PMs on work assignments, monitor workloads, and ensure clear ownership across projects.
    • Set performance expectations tied to quality, efficiency, and accountability.
    • Deliver regular coaching and feedback to elevate writing craft and productivity.
    • Identify skill gaps and implement training to improve clarity, speed, and consistency.
    • Support hiring, onboarding, and contractor integration.
    • Build a culture grounded in accountability, clarity, and high writing standards.

     

    Operational Management

    • Own the operational health of the team, including utilization, capacity and staff planning.
    • Establish scalable content workflows, briefing templates, and review processes.
    • Monitor revision rates, turnaround times, and throughput.
    • Improve systems to ensure content supports campaign deadlines without bottlenecks.

     

    AI Integration & Modern Writing Practices

    • Lead responsible integration of AI-assisted writing tools into the content workflow.
    • Train writers on how to use AI to accelerate drafting, research, outlining, and editing — while maintaining human judgment and quality control.
    • Establish standards for AI use, including prompt frameworks, quality checkpoints, and originality safeguards.
    • Continuously evaluate emerging tools that improve clarity, efficiency, and performance.
    • Ensure AI enhances productivity without compromising strategic alignment or quality.

     

    Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Partner with Strategists to translate messaging frameworks into executable content plans.
    • Collaborate with Design and Digital to ensure content supports creative direction and performance goals.
    • Provide content requirements and clarity during scoping conversations.
    • Advance the practice of scoping work through improving effort estimates and staying current on agency content pricing trends.
    • Support Account Managers with content explanations when needed — without owning client relationships.

     

    Hands-On Contribution

    • Step in to write, edit, or refine high-priority or complex assets when necessary.
    • Model modern marketing writing standards, including B2B, demand generation, and performance-driven formats.
    • Maintain personal fluency in evolving content best practices and AI-enhanced workflows.
  • What You Bring

    Must Haves

    • Strong command of campaign writing, digital content, and B2B marketing assets.
    • Demonstrated experience integrating AI tools into content workflows.
    • Comfort experimenting with and refining AI-assisted writing processes.
    • Exceptional editing and feedback skills.
    • Strong operational mindset and ability to manage workloads across multiple accounts.
    • Ability to clearly articulate writing decisions to non-writers. 

    Nice-to-Haves

    • Experience in an agency environment or multi-stakeholder creative workflow.
    • Background in telecom or technology-driven marketing.
    • Familiarity with SEO fundamentals and performance-driven content structure.
    • Background in journalism, editorial, or copywriting.

    • Writers demonstrate improved clarity, structure, and efficiency.
    • AI tools are used responsibly to increase productivity without lowering standards.
    • Messaging remains consistent across assets and channels.

    • The writing team scales without sacrificing quality.
    • AMC is a highly sought after content partner for ICP clients.

  • Education & Experience
    • 6-8+ years in B2B marketing writing, editorial leadership, or content strategy.
    • 3-5+ years leading or managing writers.

Full-time.  This is not an entry-level role.
